Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8 in Its Most Complete Foldable Lineup Ever Made

Samsung Electronics has officially launched its latest generation of foldable smartphones, introducing the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8. This announcement, made in the United Kingdom, marks what the company describes as its most comprehensive foldable lineup to date, with the aim of expanding the appeal of foldable devices beyond their traditional user base.

The new lineup features three distinct devices, each tailored for different use cases. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is designed for maximum productivity, the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 focuses on immersive content discovery, and the Galaxy Z Flip8 caters to quick, expressive everyday use. Preorders for all three models are available immediately in select markets.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: A New Standard for Foldables

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is notable for being the first foldable device to carry Samsung's "Ultra" branding, which has typically been reserved for the top tier of its Galaxy S smartphone line. Samsung has positioned the Fold8 Ultra as its slimmest Z Fold design to date, measuring just 4.1 millimeters thick when unfolded and weighing 215 grams. The device features an 8-inch main display that is intended to serve as a mobile workspace for multitasking.

TM Roh, CEO and head of Samsung's Device eXperience Division, emphasized the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in mobile devices during the announcement. He stated, "As AI becomes more agentic, mobile devices will become the most personal entry point to experiences that understand and adapt to each user." This statement underscores Samsung's commitment to enhancing the premium mobile experience while integrating AI capabilities into its foldable lineup.

The Fold8 Ultra boasts a sophisticated camera system, featuring a 200-megapixel main sensor with high dynamic range capability, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens that offers 3x optical zoom. Additionally, the device supports 8K video recording through a new APV codec and includes Cine LUT tools for on-device color grading, catering to professional content creators.

Powering the Fold8 Ultra is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform, paired with a robust 5,000mAh battery. The device incorporates a new dual-path 45W charging architecture and an expanded graphite cooling structure, which are designed to maintain performance during demanding tasks. Furthermore, the introduction of Samsung's new Flex Titanium display structure combines a titanium-alloy film with a reinforced titanium plate, allowing for a thinner display while reducing crease visibility and refining the hinge mechanism.

The Standard Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8

In contrast to the Ultra model, the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 features a reworked form factor that includes a 10:16 cover screen and a 4:3 main display. Samsung claims these dimensions are optimized for how users naturally consume content, whether it be checking messages on the cover screen or enjoying games, films, or long-form reading on the larger internal display. Weighing in at 201 grams, the Fold8 is the lightest Z Fold device Samsung has released, while still utilizing the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and a 4,800mAh battery.

The Fold8's camera setup includes dual 50-megapixel wide and ultra-wide sensors, along with features like Dual Recording, which allows users to capture both sides of a moment simultaneously using the cover screen as a live preview. Another innovative feature is My FanCam, which automatically tracks a selected subject and reframes footage for social media formats.

The Galaxy Z Flip8 rounds out the lineup as Samsung's slimmest and lightest Flip device, weighing 180 grams and measuring 6.1 millimeters thick. It features a redesigned FlexWindow cover-screen interface that surfaces relevant information and shortcuts without needing to open the phone. The new "Now Brief" feature provides timely insights directly to the cover display.

The Flip8's camera system includes a 50-megapixel main sensor paired with Samsung's ProVisual Engine, along with Flex Mode for hands-free shooting and a Horizontal Lock option added to the device's Super Steady video stabilization feature. Unlike the two Fold models, the Flip8 runs on Samsung's own Exynos 2600 chip.

AI Integration and User Experience Enhancements

All three devices come equipped with Samsung's Galaxy AI software alongside Google's Gemini Intelligence assistant. This integration supports app automation across more than 40 apps and services, enabling users to perform tasks such as looking up tickets, finding nearby restaurants, and making reservations. Samsung is also bundling a six-month free trial of Google AI Pro, which includes 5 terabytes of cloud storage, with new Galaxy Z series purchases.

Samsung is also offering new trade-in and device migration tools to facilitate the switch from iOS, including an updated Smart Switch feature that allows iPhone users to transfer data by scanning a QR code.
